What's the difference between Stornaway and other tools?

Most tools let you put buttons on a video to embed on a website. But interactive immersive media is much more than just putting a button on a video. It’s a whole new way of thinking about modern content and audiences, by joining up media clips into viewer journeys and experiences – in video, 360 video, stills, audio, VR – for every platform.

From feature films and immersive theatre to demos and tours, from recruitment and training to challenges and behaviour change campaigns – the uses of interactive media stories are exploding every day!

Stornaway.io is a creative-focused production tool for all kinds of interactive video stories and journeys in every sector. We’re proud to be a part of a rich ecosystem of tools.

There are lots of platforms to choose from – and each has a slightly different offering. So for 2023, we’ve took a dive into 23 top options – along with information on their key features, who they’re best for and (where possible) pricing – and Interactive Video for beginners – a helpful unranked guide to 23 platforms and software tools for 2023.

We hope that whatever you’re trying to do, you use Stornaway.io – do let us know how you get on. Have a look at some of our examples and case studies via the links below to see what’s possible.

How much does it cost?

How can I make learning / training videos with Stornaway?

Using Stornaway for Learning/Training videos

Stornaway is being used by companies like Johnson & Johnson, Diageo, Virgin Media (as well as 12000+ SME’s) for interactive and immersive training courses integrated with their LMS platforms like Canvas, Blackboard, Absorb, etc.

They’re adding Stornaway to their regular LMS offering because they need to personalise and gamify video experiences to keep trainees more immersed and engaged than passive video. Making active choices in real time in video keeps their brains switched on, boosts their learning retention – and is more enjoyable.

Our customers’ own content teams use the software to make all their own interactive content – which otherwise they would not have skills, time or budget to make. It has been specifically designed to be picked up in minutes by anyone who can make video.

For training, our specially designed player can be embedded on any LMS and we have an API for further integrations with your database.

You can use regular video, 360 video and stills – and also uniquely you can easily publish your experience to any other platform (with just a couple of clicks) – to VR, mobile app.

Can I use 360 stills or only 360 video?

At the moment our player is designed to work with 360 videos, but you can turn your 360 photo into a short 360 video with a video editor.Tips:
  • Use the same proportions (2:1 width to height ratio – important).
  • If your image is smaller than 3840 pixels wide, use a photo editor like Photoshop, Mac Preview or Adobe Express to reeize it to 3840×1920 – image resizers generally do a great job of blowing things up.
  • In your video editor, check the photo size and make the video sequence/project settings the same size.
  • When exporting, use a bitrate/quality of 20Mbps for the video.
  • You can add voiceover or music to the video. Tick “pause at end” to make it wait for the user to choose.
