The huge immersive potential of 360 has excited creators for years – but making interactive 360 videos has always been too hard.

360 camera owners have only been able to share one shot at a time to YouTube, or at best edit shots together into a single video.

As 360 video makers since 2016, Stornaway.io founders Kate and Ru wanted to join their videos up into interactive stories – it was one of the inspirations for Stornaway. We’ve just been waiting for the right time to bring 360 to Stornaway – and that time is now! 🚀💃🕺🔁 🎥

Choose your own 360 Christmas ! Created by Stornaway - a 360 interactive video adventure

To celebrate this news and to thank you for supporting us this year, we have made you a Choose Your Own 360 Christmas Adventure.

Watch for Santa, chase reindeer, shred some powder on a snowboard, walk in a winter wonderland…?

How we made our Christmas adventure - A 360 interactive video

As you can see from our 360 Christmas story, Stornaway.io creators can now add 360º videos to their stories and link them up using on screen links to create interactive experiences that are even more immersive.

In Stornaway.io, your story can be entirely 360, or a mix of different media. Each Story Island is its own unique section. You can link from 360º to regular 16:9 video and stills in different story islands, and it will all flow on seamlessly. They all show with the Stornaway links you know and love.

See more in our help section: 360 videos.

Our Christmas adventure was created with stock 360 footage from Pond5 – you can download watermarked clips to play with – we’ve added a shortcut link to search for 360 below.

Have a go yourselves now and please share!

Once final thing ... Publish your 360VR interactive stories in YouTube!

Not only can you make 360 videos in Stornaway, you can use our automagical YouTube export tools to… Make 360VR interactive stories in YouTube

Here’s our Choose Your Own 360 Christmas Adventure… in YouTube:

YouTube is the #1 destination for 360 videos, but they all have to be watched one by one. Now you can link them up into interactive stories, using Stornaway.io.

Earlier this year, we released our YouTube export extension, which made Stornaway.io the first ever game engine for YouTube.

This allows you to craft complex branching narratives in Stornaway.io, which can then be published to YouTube using their built-in ‘end screen’ links to other videos.

What we knew at the time but couldn’t tell you, is that this really comes into its own with 360VR video.

YouTube’s interactivity is more limited than Stornaway’s – see the picture above to see how their links look – so have a look at our Help section to see what’s possible in both platforms.
